As the President of a longstanding association management company, I felt compelled to volunteer and assist We the Parents with their governance and ongoing initiatives. As a parent, I was similarly compelled to learn more about this organization and work with WTP as it moves forward. Drug use impacts so very many families, including my own. Yet many families feel alone and have difficulties finding information and resources. The education mandate of We the Parents for both parents and their children can only help to save lives. As Sean says, "It Takes a Village".

Kayla Fernet

Kayla Fernet

Corporate Secretary

I am a concerned community member and when I saw the grassroots efforts Sean, and our board were putting together to help combat this issue, I knew that I wanted to be involved, and maybe in some small way could assist them in tackling these issues. As an experienced communications, marketing and government relations professional I hope to lend my skills to the Board of Directors as their corporate secretary. No child, family or parent should have to feel they are going through this alone, and together we can make a difference. It takes a village!

I accepted this role on the Board of Directors for We the Parents because addiction has touched our family with the worst possible outcome...the loss of our son Nicholas, in 2013. I have lived through the battle of a child with addiction, struggled with the questions, searched for the answers and I bear all of the scars. It takes a village...well I want to be part of the village that works to save the kids!!!!

A parent and concerned community member. I have a background in Psychology and Law and in the entrepreneurial world. Joined WTP because the people involved have vision, purpose and are all true inspirations. There is a need in our community and we all need to step up.

Education + Research Chair

I am honoured to be on the Board of Directors for We The Parents and being a part of a group of caring and like-minded individuals. My journey into this started when my 12 year old daughter and I attended a public information meeting held in Kanata on Feb 27, 2017 with regards to the dangerous and life threatening opioid situation in our community. My daughter had posed a question about having earlier prevention education in the schools and in moving forward with this, I have proudly accepted my role as Director of Education and Research and will continue working under the mission statement of WTP. My daughter is the one who continues to inspire me, as our children and youth are the future.

Josh Clatney

Josh Clatney

Special Advisor - Youth

As someone who has been personally affected by addiction and mental health problems, I teamed up with We The Parents to contribute to the fight against the current drug and overdose crisis. I have firsthand knowledge of what it’s like to be addicted to drugs, and I have lived experience dealing with the devastating physical, emotional and social destruction that addiction and illicit drug use can cause.
